We’d love for you to visit us here at New Hope Presbyterian Church. Below are some frequently asked questions you may have about our church.
What are your meeting times & dates?
We meet every Sunday at 10:00 for Sunday School and 11:00 for worship. After the morning worship service we have a potluck lunch in the fellowship hall, which is free and open to all.
In addition to our morning service, we also have evening worship services on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Sunday of every month at 6:00 pm. This is a different service from the morning and we have many members who attend both. In the mornings our pastor preaches from a New Testament passage and in the evenings he preaches from the Old Testament.
Where are you located?
136 Highway 71, Abbeville SC 29620. Click here for a Google Map and directions.
We’re right at the four-way stop where Highways 28 and 71 meet, just across the street from Wright Middle School.
What is the dress code?
Though our pastor always comes in a coat and tie, you are welcome to come however you like. There is no dress code so we have members in all manner of attire. You’re welcome to come as you are.
What is worship at your church like?
Most people would describe our worship as traditional, but we’re not fond of this description here at New Hope because we don’t feel that this title fully captures what we hope to do. Yes, we sing hymns out of a hymnal and we even have an organ. But our worship service isn’t structured the way it is simply for tradition’s sake or because it’s our preferred style. Rather, we believe that worship should be all about God, and not just how it makes us feel, so our service is built around a structure where God calls us to worship Him in his word and we respond. When we confess our sins (privately to God), we like to hear assurances of his forgiveness in the Bible. Church history is rich, so we love to sing old songs as well as new ones. What’s important is that all of our worship is focused on God and that it be with reverence and joy. Our service seeks to engage both the mind and the heart and includes the things we see God calling his people to do in the Bible, such as congregational singing, prayers, reading scripture, and the preaching of God’s Word.

How big is your church?
Right now we are a small congregation, with fewer than 50 members. But this means that the fellowship is really close and that we all help each other out. We’re one big family where everyone is loved, no one slips through the cracks, and we’d love to have you join us and help us grow.
How long is your service?
It varies, but about 60 minutes.
Do you have Sunday School?
Yes, we have Sunday School which begins at 10:00.
Do you have a nursery?
We have a clean and safe nursery where loving childcare is provided for children up to three-years old. The nursery is located in the hallway between the sanctuary and fellowship hall.
Do I have to bring something if I want to stay for the potluck lunch?
You’re certainly welcome to bring some food to share, but no, you don’t have to bring something to enjoy our free lunch that follows every service. However, if you’re bringing a lot of people, please let us know so we can make sure to have enough food.
We find a lot of joy in knowing God and serving people. We look forward to connecting with you! Please join us for one of our regular weekly services. Our Sunday schedules begins with Sunday School at 10am.
